Description

Coated VICRYL™ Absorbable Suture, Violet Braided, S-14 Needle, Size 5/0, 8", is a synthetic, sterile surgical suture composed of Polyglactin 910, a copolymer of 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide. The suture is coated with a mixture of polyglactin 370 and calcium stearate to reduce tissue drag and enhance handling characteristics.

The braided configuration of the suture provides superior flexibility and knot security, especially on the initial throw. The coating functions as a lubricant to promote smooth passage through tissue and reduce fraying. The violet color enhances visibility under surgical lighting, improving precision and placement.

VICRYL™ sutures maintain approximately 50% of their original tensile strength at three weeks post-implantation. The material undergoes predictable hydrolysis and is fully absorbed within 56 to 76 days, eliminating the need for suture removal in most cases. Its degradation profile makes it suitable for fast-healing tissues that require temporary support.
