Description
Coated Vicryl Plus Antibacterial Suture is a synthetic, absorbable suture designed for soft tissue approximation and ligation. It is composed of polyglactin 910 and coated with triclosan, an antibacterial agent that helps reduce the risk of surgical site infections. The antibacterial coating has been demonstrated in vitro to create a zone of inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, MRSA, and MRSE.
This suture features an RB-1 taper point needle, which is designed for smooth tissue penetration with minimal trauma. The 27-inch length provides sufficient material for various surgical applications, making it suitable for general, gynecological, and plastic surgeries. The absorption process occurs through hydrolysis, with approximately 50% of tensile strength retained at three weeks and complete absorption within 56 to 70 days.
Common indications include soft tissue closure, subcutaneous suturing, and procedures requiring secure wound approximation. The antibacterial properties help prevent bacterial colonization, particularly in procedures with a heightened infection risk. It is not recommended for use in cardiovascular or neurological surgeries where prolonged tensile strength retention is necessary.
