Description
Suture, 4/0, 14", PDS™ II, Violet, Monofilament is a sterile absorbable suture composed of polydioxanone, a synthetic polymer known for its extended tensile strength and predictable absorption profile. This monofilament suture is violet-dyed to improve visibility during placement and is designed for smooth tissue passage with minimal tissue drag.
The suture is equipped with a taper point needle, which is engineered to gently spread tissue fibers without cutting, reducing trauma during penetration. This needle type is well suited for delicate tissue approximation in gastrointestinal, urological, pediatric, or plastic surgical procedures, where tissue integrity must be preserved.
PDS™ II maintains approximately 80% of its original tensile strength at two weeks, 70% at four weeks, and 60% at six weeks post-implantation. This extended strength retention period allows for adequate healing in tissues that require prolonged support. The suture undergoes complete mass absorption between 183 to 238 days through hydrolytic degradation, leaving no residual foreign material in the body.
