Description
Plain Gut Suture, Size 5/0, 18", P-13 Needle is a sterile, absorbable surgical suture composed of purified collagen derived from the serosal layer of healthy bovine intestines. It is preserved in a solution containing 87% isopropanol, 12% water, and 1% triethanolamine. The natural origin of the suture allows for predictable absorption through enzymatic degradation.
The suture is designed for general soft tissue approximation and ligation, including ophthalmic procedures. However, it is not suitable for use in cardiovascular, neurological, or microsurgical applications due to its absorption characteristics and moderate tensile strength retention. The 18-inch suture length and P-13 precision reverse cutting needle facilitate accurate placement in delicate or confined tissue environments.
Absorption of plain gut suture begins shortly after implantation. The enzymatic degradation process leads to a progressive loss of tensile strength, followed by the complete resorption of suture mass. This timeline supports its use in tissues that heal rapidly and do not require extended support from the suture material.
