Description

Depo-Medrol 40 mg/1 mL is a sterile injectable corticosteroid containing methylprednisolone acetate as the active ingredient. It is formulated for intramuscular (IM), intra-articular (IA), intralesional, or soft tissue administration, depending on the condition being treated. Methylprednisolone acetate is a synthetic glucocorticoid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties.

This medication is commonly used to treat conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, bursitis, and synovitis, as well as dermatologic disorders like psoriasis and keloids. Depo-Medrol reduces inflammation by inhibiting the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, suppressing leukocyte migration, and decreasing capillary permeability.

Depo-Medrol is supplied in single-dose vials, each containing 40 mg of methylprednisolone acetate per mL in a sterile aqueous suspension. Common adverse effects include localized pain, swelling at the injection site, and potential systemic effects such as adrenal suppression or hyperglycemia. It is contraindicated in patients with systemic fungal infections, known hypersensitivity to corticosteroids, or intrathecal use.
